Mary, Did You Know?

Do you ever check out the “Explore” tab in Google Reader?? Today in “Popular Items,” the World’s Best Ever helped me realize I’ve been committing a major faux pas when enjoying my sushi (dumping Wasabi into your soy sauce).

I’ll also admit, I used to put the pickled ginger on top of my sushi. I know, I know. I’m embarrassed for myself.

What? I loved pickled ginger on my sushi! Is this heresy to sushi purists? Sorry, but I am guilty as charged!

Did you ever see the King of the Hill episode where Bobby gets gout from eating too much chicken liver at the Arlen Mall Kosher Delicatessen?

That's pretty much American Sushi in a nutshell. Who cares how authentic it is to put pickled ginger on your pulled pork roll? It tastes good.

Look up Yoshoku. It's Japanese "western" food. An example is what they call Neapolitan Spaghetti, which is noodles with ketchup, green onions, and chopped up hot dogs. Does it matter that this is way more Naples Florida than Italy.
Absolutely not.

Eat authentic sushi in Japan. Dip that rice in the wasabi soy sauce with the ginger on top.

It's the American way damnit!

oh man, the thought of Yoshoku makes me want to throw up in my mouth.

yeah, i'll probably still stir around the wasabi in the soy sauce, but maybe i'll try to dip the sushi fish-side down in the future??
